Life can be tricky sometimes, and knowing how to handle it is essential. You might feel frustrated or disappointed when things go differently than planned. For instance, as someone who runs daily, only some of my runs are great. There are days when my body doesn’t cooperate, but I still push through.
I’ve been working for myself since I was let go from my job in 2005. However, only some days are as productive as I’d like. Some days start well, but something unexpected happens and derails my plans.
It’s important to accept that some days will suck.
Cal Newport, a bestselling author, wrote in his book “Deep Work” that we need to learn to embrace the difficult moments in life.
So, how do you react when your day starts to go downhill, or it’s just not going well from the beginning? Do you get angry and frustrated? Or do you try to find humor in the situation and accept that some days are challenging?
I can assure you that getting angry and frustrated won’t improve your day.
You have a choice.
When life throws you a curveball, you have a choice to make. You can choose to make the best of the situation, to embrace the challenges and difficulties, or you can choose to become pessimistic, like Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh, and say things like, “I always knew it wouldn’t work out. I’m a failure. I’m stupid. I’m clueless.”
But remember, even Winnie the Pooh, who always loved honey, had days when he didn’t get any. And just like Pooh, Piglet, Tigger (that’s me!), and Christopher Robin, all fictional characters, you are bound to have bad days too.
So, what will you do when you face a tough day or a challenging situation? Will you embrace it and do your best to navigate through it? Or will you throw a tantrum and dwell on the negativity?
As you’re reading this, you might have already had a rough day that’s over now, or you might be currently experiencing a difficult day, or you might have a tough day coming up (even if you don’t know when). The choice is yours on how you handle it.
